Just a few tips to do around the home and garden while enjoying the cooler temps.  These will make for a better growing season next year and help your feathered friends as well.

• Test your soil – this gives your soil all winter to correct any imbalances before spring growing season.
• Reseed areas  in your lawn that may have been wash away by the heavy rain while there is still time for germination.
• Apply the second fall application of fertilizer to your lawn.
• Apply the fall application of Milky Spore to your lawn for a safe way to fight grubs and Japanese Beetles.
• Turn the soil and add amendments to any new beds you plan for spring. This first pass at soil preparation is much easier in the fall, and can often be delayed by spring rains and late frosts.
• Create or amend a compost pile to recycle leaves – properly composted, you’ll have rich loamy humus by spring.
• Lift, move or divide spring—and summer—blooming perennials. Sharing and trading with other gardeners makes this even more fun.  Great time to add something new to the perennial garden! 
• Cut back spent tops on many perennials, but leave seed heads on grasses etc., as they provide important food and shelter for birds.  Do not add leaves with fungus to the compost pile.
• Spray deer repellent on ornamentals, shrubs ... azaleas and evergreens they nibble all winter. PLANTSKYDD  lasts for 6 months during the dormant season.  Apply now and it will work until spring!
